Rob Berger pulled off the near impossible on Sunday, and that’s not a reference to the 14.5 hours he spent on the Ironman course in adverse conditions. In what became an elaborate covert operation, which he’s sure his now-fiance has forgiven, Rob said the 26-mile marathon in the rain, wind and cold was grueling but he kept thinking of what awaited him at the finish line.
The crowd went wild when at 9:30 p.m. he crossed the finish line and proposed to a stunned Brittney Salvatore. A medal for him, a diamond for her. I love happy endings! There's much more to this story in the print Coeur d'Alene Press Main Street column HERE.
If you haven't spent some time at an IM finish line you don't know what you're missing.
