Brothers Ryan and Erik Turrell both wear uniforms and serve in the line of duty. Erik (on right) is a sergeant with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and Ryan is a sergeant with the Texas National Guard. Their dad, Tim Turrell, is a longtime friend of mine from Coeur d'Alene Class of 1970. He was happy to have Ryan home for a recent visit before his son's fourth deployment to the war zone. Ryan's first three deployments to Iraq were with the regular Army starting in 2003 and as a combat engineer he served with the Buffalo Unit, who look for IEDs and disarm or dispose of them. Ryan is now in Afghanistan with a special unit doing night flying missions. Thanks to both Sgt. Turrells for protecting and serving.
