Bumper Crop

My friend Julie Chadderdon tells me that this coming Saturday is National Leave Zucchini on Your Neighbor's Doorstep Day. The discussion on my Facebook page was quite interesting. Another friend, Jeff Selle has a garden full of zukes and even delivered some to Ms. Chadderdon, quite neighborly since they'd not met before. Linda Jordan said she picked 40 from her garden on Tuesday and made hardly a dent in the crop. Good thing she'll be selling her zukes at the Harrison Grange Market on Saturday from 10 to 2 p.m. Dorene Russell suggests every Saturday night in August should be Steal Zucchini from Your Neighbor's Garden or that there should be a federal program that pays people NOT to grow zucchini.
Most people have a love/hate relationship with zucchini. Some people love to grow them, some people hate it when friends persistantly pawn it off. I'm somewhere in the middle. I love zucchini bread and fried zucchini but not enough to grow it.
Thanks to Jeff's talented teen daughter, Meghan Selle for the photograph of the family's Post Falls garden today. The Selles have some great hobbies that you can read about HERE. Use the comment section to share your zucchini thoughts!

  1. I refuse to plant zucchini in our garden. So, we have a bumper crop of CUCUMBERS instead. At least they taste good in a sandwich.
