National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day is marked on July 27. Official Presidential proclaimation HERE. Flags will be flown at half-staff today in honor of those who fought for freedom in North Korea.
My late father, Ron Rankin, was a US Marine Corps combat veteran of the Korean War, having survived the historic Battle of the Chosin Resevoir in 1950.
In this photograph he was about 20 years old. I was born 10 months after he returned from war.
Kerri, your dad obviously was a lean, mean fighting machine if he was anything like he was when I first met him back in the late 60's, although he was not quite so lean. He was my mentor, in a way, in many political battles. I'm so glad to see his memory and legacy still being honored.
