During a reception at Camp Sweyolakan on Sunday I met Susannah Kirkham Steffy, who was celebrating her 74th birthday. She was sharing the day with her daughters Seraphima and Gretchen and her grandchildren Sasha and Andre`. Susannah had last been to Camp Sweyolakan in 1952 so it was a special homecoming. Happy Campers
During a reception at Camp Sweyolakan on Sunday I met Susannah Kirkham Steffy, who was celebrating her 74th birthday. She was sharing the day with her daughters Seraphima and Gretchen and her grandchildren Sasha and Andre`. Susannah had last been to Camp Sweyolakan in 1952 so it was a special homecoming. I wonder if Susannah Kirkham knew my mom, who was a counselor at Sweyolakan around that same time. My mom also returned there last year for the first time in five decades!
ReplyDeleteAs one of Susannah's daughters, Seraphima, I had a brilliant time! The camp was better than I last remembered and I wished I could have crawled into one of the teepes I last stayed, sailed one of the dingys I learned to navigate on, had a great treat by a campfire, and just crawled into the past. The CampFire Girls and Sweyolakan are fantastic. The day was wonderful. Idaho Dad, who is your mother? I'll pass the name along.
