Happy Campers

During a reception at Camp Sweyolakan on Sunday I met Susannah Kirkham Steffy, who was celebrating her 74th birthday. She was sharing the day with her daughters Seraphima and Gretchen and her grandchildren Sasha and Andre`. Susannah had last been to Camp Sweyolakan in 1952 so it was a special homecoming. All three generations of her family have camped at Sweyolakan. More photos HERE.

  1. I wonder if Susannah Kirkham knew my mom, who was a counselor at Sweyolakan around that same time. My mom also returned there last year for the first time in five decades!

As one of Susannah's daughters, Seraphima, I had a brilliant time! The camp was better than I last remembered and I wished I could have crawled into one of the teepes I last stayed, sailed one of the dingys I learned to navigate on, had a great treat by a campfire, and just crawled into the past. The CampFire Girls and Sweyolakan are fantastic. The day was wonderful. Idaho Dad, who is your mother? I'll pass the name along.

My mother loved camping there and was very fond of all the CITs and staff.
